We're coming to you from the Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College in Manchester where in this program, we'll get the scoop on the new civic engagement index.
Hello, I'm Beth Carroll. Welcome to NH Outlook.
More on that coming up.
But we begin with the big topic of conversation around the state these days: the weather.
The warm weather has broken all kinds of records.
For some perspective, Outlook's Chip Neal caught up David Brown, Assistant Professor of Geography at UNH and our state Climatologist.

We're now about a year away from the New Hampshire Primary, and one of the leading candidates on the Republican side is former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.
Outlook's Richard Ager spoke with him just before the November election about Iraq, national security, and running for President.

Civic engagement among NH's young people.
script iconIntro Civic Index 1
Return to index of stories...
Conventional Wisdom holds that young people are, in general, alienated from politics.
But, in the 2006 elections -- young voters played a significant role.
24 percent of voters under the age of 30 cast ballots in mid-term elections. that's the largest number in more than 20 years.
What fuels civic engagement in NH's youth?
The NH Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College launched a one-of-a-kind research study to find out.
Five critical areas of civic life were measured: confidence in civic skills, trust in institutions, civic knowledge, sources of civic information, and youth & civic Education.
The study found Moderate to High Levels of Civic Engagement in NH with 39-percent of youth volunteering and 41-percent of adults involved in their communities.
Here to talk about the 2006 NH Civic Index and its implications:
Dean Spiliotes at the NH Institute of Politics at St Anselm College.who authored the study, and Mica Stark, the director of Civic Education at the NH Institute of Politics, who has been holding community forums to disscuss the study's findings.
Q DEAN: Why is it important to measure civic engagement?
what we you hoping to learn?
